LANE COUNTY, OREGON – As communities experience an alarming uptick in immigrant detainments, deportations and workplace raids, neighbors are arming themselves with tools and information about their constitutional rights.

One grassroots group, Canvassing for Community, is organizing outreach to business and workplaces in Lane County to ensure employers, managers and employees know what to do if federal agents show up to their door.

The 4th amendment protects ALL people from unlawful searches. Simply being law enforcement does not authorize an agent to enter private spaces without a warrant. On an organized canvassing day, pairs from C4C offer materials to local businesses that outline the application of this right. Among these materials are samples of official, judicial warrants(without which agents man not enter private spaces), and signs designating some space on the premise as “private”.
